The Department of Civil Engineering, established in 1963, has grown into a full-fledged department with specializations covering all major branches of civil engineering. The department offers one Undergraduate Program (B.E. in Civil Engineering) and two Postgraduate Programs (M.Tech in Structural Engineering and M.Tech in Highway Technology).All the programs are accredited by NBA.

Recognized as a Research Centre under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), the department facilitates research leading to M.Sc (Engg) and Ph.D. degrees. The faculty members actively guide doctoral research for both full-time scholars and in-service engineers. The faculty actively publish research papers in reputed national and international conferences and journals.

The department has successfully executed  sponsored projects funded by DST, AICTE, ISRO,HUDCO and VTU. The faculty members are actively involved in consultancy services across all major areas of civil engineering and conduct training programs for in-service engineers from the Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Karnataka, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and other organisations.

To strengthen academia–industry collaboration, the department has signed MoUs with reputed organizations such as Brigade Group, Arcadis-IBI, 3M India, and L&T CTEA. M/s Brigade Group and M/s Saarthaka trust provide merit and means scholarships annually to deserving students.

The  students being recruited by leading companies such as L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji, Brigade Group, Sobha Ltd, Atkins, Total Environment, TCS, Cognizant, and Accenture  among others.

The department is committed to the holistic development of students by encouraging active participation in curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities.
