Established in 1963, the Department of Civil Engineering offers B.E., M.Tech. (Structural Engineering, Highway Technology) and doctoral programmes, led by highly qualified faculty. A recognised VTU research hub, it guides doctoral research and has gained national and international recognition for its contributions. The department also hosts a HUDCO chair focused on sustainable, low-cost construction.
The department uses standardised, autonomous teaching methods, like flipped classes and blended learning, alongside industry-sponsored labs and expert lectures. Following Outcome-Based Education principles, the eight-semester programme includes mandatory projects, internships and industrial visits, with continuous improvement based on industry needs.
