Message from HOD

Civil Engineering is one of the most important branches of engineering, forming the backbone of modern infrastructure and public well-being. From the buildings we live and work in to the roads we travel on to the systems that deliver clean water and manage waste, civil engineering touches nearly every aspect of our daily lives.

The role of civil engineers is vital and challenging in the current scenario of rapid urbanisation, climate change, and resource scarcity. Civil engineers are at the forefront of green infrastructure, smart cities, disaster management and digital modelling.

The department has experienced and qualified faculty in all the disciplines of civil engineering. The state-of-the-art laboratory and other infrastructure of the department expose students to the testing of materials and models and to carrying out research.

The department has specialised equipment like the Mini Test Floor, Work Station, Fatigue Testing Machine and DGPS. The faculty of the department carried out research through funded projects and is closely associated with industrial consultancy.

The B.E. and M.Tech. programmes are NBA accredited, and the Research Centre of the department is recognised by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, for carrying out M.Sc. Engineering and Ph.D. studies.

Emerging technologies are reshaping how we design, construct and maintain the built environment – offering new tools, perspectives and possibilities for the challenges ahead. Emerging technologies like

  • Building Information Modelling – enhancing design collaboration and visualisation
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning – optimising construction processes, predictive maintenance and structural health monitoring
  • Drones and remote sensing – Enabling real-time site inspections, topographical surveys and 3D printing is expected to increase construction speed and quality.
  • Geographic Information System – improving spatial analysis and urban planning decisions
  • Digital twins – creating virtual replicas of physical assets for better performance monitoring and decision-making in infrastructure management

Some of the emerging job profiles in the future in civil engineering will be Sustainable Infrastructure Engineer, BIM Specialist, Digital Twin Engineer, Smart City Planner, Construction Automation Specialist, Disaster Resilience Engineer, and Geospatial Engineer.

The department works diligently to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to excel. Certifications, project-based learning, and internships are making our students more competitive and confident.
