Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at RVCE is one of the premier and impactful departments in the domain of engineering education, offering the underlying physical layer for almost all other engineering programmes. The Department was established in the year 1972 and is currently offering the following programmes

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering (B.E.)
  2. Master’s Degree in VLSI Design & Embedded Systems (M Tech-VLSI&ES)
  3. Master’s Degree in Communication Systems (M Tech-CS)
  4. PhD / MS Degree through research.

The Department is NBA accredited multiple times for all the disciplines and currently accredited for 6 years for the UG programme. These programmes are approved by AICTE and affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, Karnataka. RVCE in general and ECE programmes in particular are among the most sought-after programmes by aspirants from across the state and country. The institution and department strive continuously for the holistic development of the students.

With the top quality student input to the programme, the department is serving a huge onus of maintaining excellence in the Teaching-Learning Process and enhancing the quality index of these outstanding students. The department has identified 4-strong verticals to cater to the needs of engineering education, namely VLSI design and Embedded Systems, Communication Engineering, Computer Networking & Control engineering and signal processing. The graduates of the department from all disciplines, UG, PG and PhD are excelling in their professional performances at all levels (National and Global)

The Department has an excellent placement record over the decades because of the MOUs with various international/national companies, and the alumni of the department are excellently delivering their responsibilities. The industry partners of ECE_RVCE, like Texas Instruments, Global Foundries, Qualcomm, AMD, Samsung, NXP Semiconductors, Infenion, Nokia and many more actively engaged in academic activities, including the Board of Studies (BOS) and the Teaching Learning Process.

The Department has well-established and well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratories with all necessary licensed software tools supported by high-speed Ethernet and Wireless networks.

The Department is imparting core competency education in Electronics and Communication Engineering, with a huge focus on skills and competency enhancements. The 4 Centres of Excellence (COEs)

  1. COE in Materials Fabrication & Characterisation (CoE-MFC)
  2. COE in Smart Antenna Systems and Measurements (CoE-SASM)
  3. COE in Connected Autonomous Vehicles
  4. COE in Integrated Circuits and Systems (CoE-ICAS)

These offer state-of-the-art skills to students, enabling them to become industry-ready. The department inculcates technical, analytical and communication skills in the students that open career avenues for students in multiple domains, including Public Service Commission (UPSC and KPSC) opportunities.

Research at ECE_RVCE is of good quality, enabling the students to participate in various defence/government/industry-funded projects, leading to quality publications, patenting and good citation indices. The qualified and experienced faculty members of the department ensure desirable qualities for the students through quality TLPs using a variety of ICT tools, Simulation/Synthesis tools in experiential learning (ELs), well-equipped laboratories, internships through industry-supposed COEs. The department has an annual newsletter named “ECLECTIC”

The Department has a Research Centre established in 2004, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, and offers Ph.D. programmes by research in various specialisations of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Guides: 35, Candidates Registered: 63, Ph.D. Awarded: 37, Pursuing: 26. The Department has quality publications with good citations, patents and projects (funded/consultancy).  The department has approximately 550 International Journal papers, 500 International Conferences, and over 900 Scopus Documents. These research articles/publications are well accepted by the research community and practising engineers, which is supported by a good number of citations. As of January 2025, the department has over 3100 Scopus Citations and more than 6000 Google citations. The ECE department has 20 patents to its credit: 12 granted, 7 published and 2 filed.
