It gives me great pleasure to introduce the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering at RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru, a department with a legacy of excellence, innovation and transformation.
Established in 1981 as the Instrumentation Technology Department, it was renamed in 2014 to reflect the broader and evolving scope of the discipline. With a focused intake of 60 students, we aim to provide a high-impact, personalised learning experience rooted in our mission: to foster technical expertise, cultivate lifelong learning and strengthen industry-academia collaboration.
Our curriculum is built on strong Outcome-Based Education (OBE) principles, emphasising skill development, analytical thinking and innovation. Aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, the syllabus is regularly updated with active industry involvement. Experts from leading companies such as ABB, Intel and National Instruments guide our Board of Studies, ensuring our students remain aligned with current industry needs.
We follow a vertical-based learning model that spans domains like Sensors and Actuators, Embedded Systems, Automatic Process Control, VLSI, Biomedical Instrumentation, Industrial Automation Technology and Automation in Industry 4.0. These are supported by modern laboratories, including DSP, Virtual Instrumentation, PLC and SCADA labs, with facilities like the Automation Studio simulation package and Microcontroller Development Platforms offering hands-on, industry-relevant experience.
Research is a cornerstone of our department. Recognised as a VTU-approved R&D Centre since 2011, we currently host 31 scholars, of whom 28 have successfully earned their Ph.D. Our faculty lead research in areas such as Biomedical Signal Processing, Underwater Acoustics and Wired Communication. We have received funding from esteemed bodies like DST, CSIR and VGST. Undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in research, patent filings and interdisciplinary projects.
We are proud to host two Centres of Excellence – the Sensor Technology & Applications Centre and the Centre for Healthcare Technologies &Research. These centres support internship training, product development and research publications, effectively bridging academic knowledge and practical application.
Our faculty members are our strength. Many hold Ph.Ds and are actively involved in research, publications and mentorship. They regularly participate in QIPs and FDPs, and their accomplishments are celebrated within the institution.
We also place strong emphasis on the holistic development of our students. From soft skills training and pre-placement preparation to participation in hackathons, cultural activities and yoga, we equip our students to succeed in both life and career. Our students consistently secure top placements, with recent packages reaching up to 37 LPA from companies like Texas Instruments.
Through strategic MoUs with organisations such as Bosch Rexroth, Bigsolv and LI2 Innovations, students gain real-world exposure through projects, expert talks and internships. Our alumni play a vital role by mentoring students, assisting with placements and contributing to curriculum design.
We are equally committed to community outreach. Students engage with NGOs and social initiatives under AICTE’s activity-based programmes. With a global vision, we aim to position the department as a national and international hub of innovation. Plans include launching certification courses, MOOCs and fostering international research collaborations.
