Established in 1963, the Department of Mathematics at RVCE is one of the institution’s oldest and most respected departments. It has played a crucial role in RVCE’s growth and success, consistently providing high-quality education and making significant contributions to both theoretical and applied mathematical research.

The department features a dedicated team of 24 faculty members, 23 of whom hold Ph.D. degrees. Faculty research interests span a wide range, including Pure Mathematics, Applied & Computational Mathematics, Mathematical Modelling and Quantum Computing.

Recognised as a research centre by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), the department boasts 19 approved research guides who actively mentor 16 research scholars, with 8 scholars having successfully completed their research. This strong combination of teaching excellence and cutting-edge research underscores the department’s vital role in advancing the academic and scientific community.

  • To enable every faculty to attain a Ph.D. through the research centre facility.
  • To establish a Centre of Mathematical modelling and incubation centres.
  • To introduce new courses as elective subjects in tune with state-of-the-art technology.
  • To organise International / National conferences periodically.
  • To focus more on research with industrial projects handling.
  • To introduce more electives in the UG Programmes.
  • To achieve a 100% pass rate in the next 5 years.
  • To take up R&D and Consultancy activities.
  • To take up DST / AICTE-sponsored projects, jointly with engineering departments.
  • To provide an education that is strong in fundamentals and applied knowledge, which enables them for graduate study and immediate selection in a variety of fields as well as for lifelong learning.
