About the Department
Established in 1963 and among the institution’s oldest departments, the Department of Physics blends tradition with innovation. It offers Engineering Physics courses, global electives and a Ph.D. programme under VTU. With expert faculty, cutting-edge labs and a strong research culture, the department fosters interdisciplinary learning. Guided by an advisory board, it continuously evolves to meet global academic and industry standards.

Greetings from the Department of Physics!
It is a pleasure to lead one of the foundational departments of RVCE. We offer Engineering Physics across all engineering programmes, global electives for higher semesters and a doctoral programme through VTU. Our team comprises 13 Ph.D. – qualified faculty dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary learning and sustainable technology through Physics.
With a strong research focus, we are a recognised research centre under VTU, actively working on cutting-edge technologies. Our faculty have published extensively, with six granted patents and four patents published, and are involved in collaborative projects across departments.
We also encourage student engagement through the RVCE Science Forum and our unique astrophysics club – dhRuVa, fostering scientific curiosity and innovation from the very first year.
