Ashwa Racing

About the club

Ashwa Mobility Foundation (AMF) also referred to as Ashwa Racing, one of India’s pioneering Formula Student (FS) teams, was established on 23rd November 2003, marking the beginning of an era in Indian motorsports innovation. The team developed its first prototype in 2005 and made its international debut at FSAE Australasia, laying the foundation for a legacy of excellence. Initially focused on Formula Student-style combustion cars, Ashwa Racing expanded its global footprint, competing in prestigious events such as FS Germany (2008) and FS Italy (2010). Over the years, the team has consistently represented India on the international stage, participating in FSAE Australasia, FS Italy and FS Germany.

With a vision for future mobility, Ashwa Racing diversified into hybrid technology in 2015, achieving a remarkable top-10 worldwide ranking in its very first competition. Since then, the team has maintained a strong presence in both combustion and hybrid categories, continuously pushing the boundaries of engineering excellence.

Today, Ashwa Racing stands as India’s most consistent Formula Student team, building multiple prototypes annually and competing across different categories. With a strong industry-institute collaboration and a focus on skill development, Ashwa Racing continues to shape the future of mobility, proudly representing RV College of Engineering on the global stage.

VISION

  • To be the national leader in all categories of Formula Student, to push the limits of engineering and compete in events at the highest level.
  • To foster student mobility solutions in the future by developing sustainable prototypes across various domains.

MISSION

  • Prepare students to be industry-ready by conceptualizing, designing and delivering a vehicle of world-class standards
  • Provide a platform for students to interact with and learn from the industry
  • Exhibit India’s engineering capabilities in the field of Mobility Engineering on a global platform
  • Provide a platform for the industry to seek potential talent and to enable brand recognition and visibility for sponsors
  • Conceive and develop inexpensive rapid sustainable transportation solutions for the masses

Milestones/Projects

Formula Student:

Formula Student is an international engineering competition where university teams design, build, and race a single-seater formula-style race car. Ashwa Racing’s flagship project, which started in 2003. Competition includes static events (design, cost, and business presentation) and dynamic events (acceleration, skidpad, autocross, endurance, and efficiency).

Previously participated in hybrid and combustion category events.

Competitions for the hybrid category include:

  • Formula Hybrid + Electric Event, New Hampshire, USA

For the combustion category:

  • FSAE Australasia
  • Formula Bharat
  • Formula Student Czech
  • Formula Student Italy
  • Formula Student Germany

For the target competitions:

  • Formula Hybrid + Electric Event, New Hampshire, USA 2026
  • Formula Bharat 2026

MotoStudent:

MotoStudent is an engineering competition where university teams design, build, and race a prototype motorcycle. The competition challenges students to develop a race-worthy motorcycle, integrating real-world engineering, innovation and business strategy. The competition consists of static (design, innovation and business) and dynamic (braking, acceleration, handling and endurance race) events. MotoStudent provides hands-on experience in motorcycle engineering, fostering skills relevant to motorsports and the broader automotive industry. The project was introduced in 2021.

For the target competitions:

  • MotoStudent International, Aragon, Spain
  • MotoStudent India, Coimbatore, India

Hyperloop:

Hyperloop competitions are engineering challenges where university teams design, build, and test high-speed pod prototypes for the futuristic Hyperloop transportation system. These competitions encourage innovation in areas like aerodynamics, propulsion, levitation, braking and vacuum technology. Teams are judged on design, performance, and safety, with an emphasis on real-world implementation. The competition fosters advancements in sustainable high-speed transportation. The project was initiated in 2020.

Previously participated in European Hyperloop Week, which was held in ETH Zurich, Switzerland, in 2024.

For the target competitions:

  • European Hyperloop Week, ETH Zurich, Switzerland
  • Global Hyperloop Competition, IIT Madras, India

Open-Source Vehicle:

Student engineering competition focused on designing and developing energy-efficient vehicles. The event encourages innovation in aerodynamics, lightweight materials, and energy management to maximize efficiency.

The competition includes technical inspections, design evaluations, and dynamic track events to test energy consumption and performance. By promoting open-source vehicle development, the event fosters collaboration, sustainable mobility, and engineering excellence for future transportation solutions. The project was started in 2021 with an aim to go autonomous with an electric prototype.

For the target competitions:

  • TÜBİTAK Efficiency Challenge, Turkey
